Chatbot-based Mental Health Screenings

The assessment of psychological symptoms (e.g. depression, anxiety, stress) using screening questionnaires can be done via several modalities. Recently, text-based conversational user Interfaces (i.e., chatbots) are increasingly seen as a promising modality. However, it is rarely investigated how responses to chatbots differ from other well-established modalities. Since many studies based on the Computer Are Social Actors paradigm revealed that chatbots trigger social reactions, we aim to investigate whether chatbots also trigger response biases similar to those occurring in face-to-face Interviews. Therefore, we aim to investigate how survey chatbots affect social desirability response bias in the context of mental health screenings.
