Personalized Mental Health Chatbots

Depression is a large-scale problem with significant individual and socioeconomic costs. Yet, people often do not seek or receive treatment due to long waiting times, stigma, uncertainty, and the desire to solve problems on their own. Chatbots are promising digital interventions that might mitigate these barriers. Their conversational nature has been shown to improve engagement and relationship building. Together with our colleagues from University of Greifswald, we investigate how to design chatbots to treat depression in youth and how to personalise these chatbots to increase patient engagement and treatment success.
